Hold-down pipe clamps are put to use in situations in which the pipe must either be anchored in place or allowed to move axially. These are the types of situations in which hold-down pipe clamps are utilized. In order to lessen the amount of friction that exists between the pipe and the clamp, the design may use slide plates made of materials such as PTFE, glass filled to a percentage of 25%, or graphite.
